How to Find the Shrine of Descent and Unlock Acolyte in Risk of Rain 2

Locating and Activating the Shrine of Descent

To begin the process of unlocking the Acolyte in Risk of Rain 2: Hallowed Concepts, you must first set the stage by acquiring the necessary artifacts. You need the N’Tormat Curio and at least one Page, which can be obtained through Wake events or by completing a Trial. If you haven't encountered a Wake event, you can initiate a Trial by interacting with the Trial Gong found in the lower pit of the Bazaar Between Time.

Once you have these items, search for the Shrine of Descent during your regular stage progression. It appears as a modified version of the Shrine of the Mountain, featuring a curved structure with a floating orb.

Warning

You must activate the Shrine of Descent before you start the main stage Teleporter. If you trigger the Teleporter event first, the Shrine will not lead you to the Soulbound Threshold. You will know the shrine is properly activated when you receive the message: “Soulbinding Trial awaits.”

Surviving the Soulbinding Teleporter Event

After activating the shrine, proceed to the Teleporter and initiate the event. This encounter is significantly more difficult than a standard boss fight. The "Soulbinding" effect extends the duration of the charge, and the process will continue well beyond the usual 100% threshold.

Expect multiple waves of enemies and bosses. It is crucial to maintain mobility—prioritize clearing dangerous mobs and stay away from the center if you are being overwhelmed. Once the Soulbinding encounter concludes, a specific Ritual Portal will appear. Do not take the standard exit; you must enter this portal to reach the Soulbound Threshold.

Completing A Broken Ritual and Rescuing Acolyte

Inside the Soulbound Threshold, navigate toward the central arena and interact with the console to start the ritual. This phase consists of four distinct combat waves followed by a final confrontation with the Anima Harvester.

The Anima Harvester requires sustained single-target damage. Keep your distance and use the arena’s layout to avoid heavy attacks. Once the boss is defeated, the exit portal will open.

Tip

Do not leave immediately! After the Anima Harvester falls, search the area near the exit portal to find the fallen Acolyte. You must interact with her and offer a qualifying healing item (such as a Medkit, Cautious Slug, or Leeching Seed) to complete the "A Broken Ritual" achievement and officially unlock her as a playable survivor.

Troubleshooting Common Unlock Issues

If you find that Acolyte remains locked after your run, review these common points of failure reported by the community:

• Missing Prerequisites: Ensure you actually collected the N’Tormat and a Page from a Trial. Simply participating in a Trial is not enough; you must secure the rewards.
• Timing Errors: If you activate the Teleporter before the Shrine of Descent, you will miss the path to the Soulbound Threshold.
• Incomplete Rituals: If the ritual in the Soulbound Threshold seems to stall, scan the outer platforms for remaining enemies. The event will not progress until all required targets are eliminated.
• Invalid Offerings: Not every item works for the final rescue. Ensure you have a qualifying healing item in your inventory. Be cautious with the Power Elixir, as it may consume itself automatically if your health drops too low before you reach the final rescue stage.
