How to Find and Use the Gold Portal in Risk of Rain 2

Understanding the Gold Portal and Gilded Coast

The Gold Portal is your gateway to the Gilded Coast, a hidden realm in Risk of Rain 2. This area is unique because time and difficulty scaling are paused while you are inside, allowing you to explore without the pressure of the ever-increasing difficulty meter. The primary purpose of this realm is to challenge the boss, Aurelionite, the Titanic Goldweaver.

How to Access the Gilded Coast

There are two primary methods to reach the Gilded Coast:

• Altar of Gold: You can find an Altar of Gold randomly throughout your run. Interacting with it costs a significant amount of gold. Once paid, the Gold Portal will spawn once you complete the standard teleporter event for that stage.
• Bazaar Between Time: If you have access to the Bazaar, keep an eye out for the Lunar Seer. There is a rare chance the Seer will offer a path to the Gilded Coast for a cost of three Lunar Coins.

Tip

Since the cost of Halcyon Beacons in the Gilded Coast scales with your stage progression, entering this realm in the late game can be expensive and potentially dangerous. Plan your economy accordingly.

Defeating Aurelionite: The Titanic Goldweaver

Once you enter the Gilded Coast, your main objective is to defeat Aurelionite. The map contains seven Halcyon Beacons. Aurelionite will spawn once you activate the fourth beacon, but you will find that the boss is invulnerable to all damage as long as any beacons remain inactive.

• Activation Strategy: To effectively damage the boss, aim to activate all seven beacons. If you take too long to deal damage, Aurelionite will force the beacons to deactivate, requiring you to re-purchase them.
• Gold Management: Community reports suggest saving up a substantial amount of gold before spawning the boss. Clearing the small mobs on the map before interacting with the beacons ensures you have the funds to reactivate them quickly if necessary.

Rewards and Considerations

Upon defeating Aurelionite, each player will receive the Halcyon Seed. This boss item is highly sought after because, when in your inventory, it allows you to summon Aurelionite as an ally during any subsequent teleporter events. The boss will fight alongside you, providing significant support during intense battles.

Additionally, the Gilded Coast features four guaranteed small chests. While these provide a nice boost to your items, consider whether the cost of entering the portal is worth it compared to other potential legendary items or encounters you might skip by choosing to enter this hidden realm.

Extra Content and DLC Integration

If you have the Seekers of the Storm DLC enabled, the Gilded Coast gains additional depth. Defeating Aurelionite will spawn a green portal leading to the Path of the Colossus. Furthermore, if you have already completed the Prime Meridian stage in a current run, the Halcyon Shrine is guaranteed to spawn the Gold Portal, making access more predictable for those chasing specific achievements or end-game challenges.
